Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, has sought continued U.S. support for the implementation and reform of various important projects in the country.

On Tuesday, Tracey Jacobson, the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh, met with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser discussed issues of mutual interest and the impact of the U.S. decision to suspend USAID activities globally.

Dr. Yunus expressed concern about the decision to halt U.S. support for other significant USAID projects in Bangladesh, particularly the health research institution ICDDRB.

He said, “ICDDR,B has nearly brought the death rate from diarrhea and cholera to zero—not only in Bangladesh but also in countries like Haiti in the Caribbean.”

The Chief Adviser emphasized, "Regardless of the situation with USAID, support from the United States is needed at this crucial time of reconstruction and reform in Bangladesh. This is not the time to halt it."

During the discussion, the Chief Adviser also highlighted the proposals of various commissions on state reforms and the government's initiatives. He mentioned the recently formed 'Consensus Commission' and his plan to initiate dialogue with political parties under its framework.
