U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba attended a joint press conference.
Speaking first, Trump stated that Japan has committed to doubling its defense spending by 2027 compared to the amount allocated during his first presidential term (2017-2021).
Trump said, "The United States is fully committed to Japan's security and will employ the full strength of America's defense capabilities to protect our friends and allies."
He further added, "We have agreed to work together more closely to combat China's economic aggression, which is quite aggressive."
The U.S. President also mentioned that Japan will be investing more in the United States and will soon be importing U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) in record numbers. Trump stated that he and Ishiba discussed how both countries can stay on the "cutting edge of artificial intelligence" with the latest technologies.
