The PGA Tour has sought the help of former U.S. President Donald Trump for a long-awaited integration with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. This deal could help end the division in professional golf.

PIF, the financial backer of the LIV Golf League, has attracted many PGA Tour stars with large contracts and tournament prizes. On Thursday, the PGA Tour announced in a statement that Commissioner Jay Monahan and Player Director Adam Scott met with Trump on Tuesday.

The statement said, "We know golf fans are eagerly awaiting a resolution to negotiations with PIF, and we thank President Trump for his long-standing interest and support of the game of golf. We asked the President to get involved for the good of the game, the good of the country, and for all the countries involved. We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for the reunification of men’s professional golf."

More than 18 months after the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and PIF announced a "framework agreement," which was a major surprise in the sports world, the parties have exceeded their self-imposed deadline of December 31, 2023, to finalize the deal.

The only news last year came in June, when PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan met with PGA Tour representatives in New York, marking the anniversary of the framework agreement.

Trump has a positive relationship with the founders of LIV Golf. His Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami will host an event in April, as it did in 2023. During that year, Trump’s courses in Washington, DC, and Bedminster, NJ, also hosted LIV events.

On Tuesday, Trump announced that he would soon visit the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, though no exact date was announced.
