Cairo, February 5, 2025: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti called on Wednesday for the Palestinian Authority to take control of the Gaza Strip. His remarks came a few hours after U.S. President Donald Trump proposed taking control of the Gaza region.

In a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa, Abdelatti stated that Egypt wants the Palestinian Authority to "assume its duties in the Gaza Strip, which is part of the occupied Palestinian territories."

He also emphasized the need for swift reconstruction in Gaza following Trump's proposal, stressing that Palestinians should not be displaced from the region.

The two leaders agreed that "the upcoming recovery projects should move forward at an accelerated pace... so that Palestinians do not have to leave the Gaza Strip, particularly due to their commitment to their land and refusal to abandon it," according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
