Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London on Tuesday, where she will seek European support to counter US President Donald Trump’s remarks about Greenland.

The main topic of the meeting in London will be "security in Europe," according to Frederiksen’s office. Although the statement did not specifically mention Greenland or the United States, Frederiksen said, "We need a stronger Europe that is able to contribute more to NATO and stand more independently."

She further added, "At the same time, we must play our part in maintaining the transatlantic partnership, which has been the foundation for peace and prosperity since World War II."

President Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in the Arctic island of Greenland, which is strategically important and believed to hold large mineral and oil reserves.

Last week, Trump’s assistant Vice President J.D. Vance said in an interview with Fox News, "Greenland is extremely important to our national security. Frankly, Denmark, which controls Greenland, is not doing its job and is not a good ally."

On Monday, Frederiksen firmly stated that Denmark is "one of the United States' most important and best allies."

Last week, Frederiksen visited Paris and Berlin to seek support from the European Union’s major powers to counter Trump’s threats.

Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede had said last year, "The people of Greenland do not want to be American."
