In a clash that occurred on the night of January 31 and February 1 in the Mangochar area of Kalat district in Balochistan province, 18 security personnel and 12 terrorists were killed. The media wing of the Pakistan Army, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), issued a statement stating that the terrorists attempted to establish roadblocks.
The statement mentioned, "This cowardly terrorist attack, instigated by enemy forces, aimed at disrupting the peaceful environment of Balochistan, primarily targeting innocent civilians." Security forces and law enforcement personnel were quickly mobilized and successfully thwarted the terrorists' malicious plan, killing 12 terrorists and ensuring the safety of the local population.
However, during the operation, 18 security personnel were killed. The operation is still ongoing, and steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators and accomplices of this heinous act to justice.
Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province, is the least developed compared to other provinces. It frequently experiences terrorist attacks by Baloch separatists who target security forces and people from other provinces.
This incident comes at a time when separate anti-terrorism operations have been conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, where 10 terrorists were killed. Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, the number of terrorist attacks has increased, especially in the bordering regions of KP and Balochistan.
In 2024, Pakistan experienced its deadliest year for security forces, with 685 personnel killed and 444 terrorist attacks recorded.
