Gaza, January 30 – Israeli female soldier Agam Berger has been released in Gaza as part of the third phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas. Berger was freed on Thursday from under the rubble at the Jabalia refugee camp, a site that has been repeatedly targeted by Israeli forces since October 2023.

Agam Berger was the first of eight captives to be released today, including five Thai nationals. The prisoner release process is ongoing across Gaza, including locations like the vicinity of former Hamas political chief Yahya Sinwar's house in the southern city of Khan Younis. In return, Israel is expected to release 110 Palestinian prisoners later today.

Last Saturday, Hamas released four Israeli female soldiers detained in Gaza, while Israel freed 200 Palestinians from its prisons. This marked a significant step in the ceasefire after more than 15 months of war.

This prisoner exchange agreement aims to ease hostilities and facilitate mutual prisoner releases as part of broader efforts to end the prolonged conflict.
