Bangladesh's Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for continuing assistance for the Rohingyas.

On Sunday (January 26), Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Apurba Jahangir, shared this information during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

He stated that President Trump, after taking office, has suspended foreign aid for 90 days. However, funding for nutrition and food assistance programs for the Rohingyas is excluded from this executive order. For this reason, the Chief Adviser has expressed his gratitude to Trump, noting that the assistance will continue. Officials from the U.S. Embassy met with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative for the Rohingya issue and other priority matters, to convey this message of thanks.

The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, remarked that USAID’s primary assistance is focused on the Rohingyas. Over the past seven years, the United States has provided over $2 billion for the Rohingyas residing in Bangladesh. "We hope their contributions will continue. This suspension is for 90 days, and it will not significantly affect Bangladesh as donations have already decreased here. This measure is unlikely to have any major impact on Bangladesh," he added.
