Violence by Israeli Forces in South Lebanon Kills 3 More and Injures at Least 30, Hezbollah Protests
Beirut, January 26, 2025 – Israeli forces have killed 3 people and injured over 30 others in a border area of South Lebanon, according to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, after attacking local residents attempting to return to their homes.
Israel announced on Friday that it intended to keep forces in the south beyond the Sunday deadline for withdrawal. Accordingly, a decree was issued on Saturday preventing local residents from returning to their homes.
Under the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement following last year's war with Hezbollah, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw from South Lebanon within 60 days. However, Israel claims that the terms have not been fully implemented. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s U.S.-backed military accused Israel on Saturday of delaying its withdrawal.
