Former U.S. President Joe Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden departed Washington D.C. just over an hour after President Donald Trump took office. The helicopter, Nighthawk 46, took them to Joint Base Andrews, where Biden addressed a crowd of supporters.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden told the cheering crowd. Shortly after, Biden and his wife set off to the Santa Ynez Valley in California for some personal time.

Although many had gathered at Santa Barbara Airport hoping to see Biden’s plane land, a "no-fly" notice in the airspace around Vandenberg indicated that the former president would land there, as reported by local outlet KEYT.

Biden and his wife had visited the area last summer, making this their second visit in less than a year. Shelby Sim, President/CEO of Visit the Santa Ynez Valley, told People magazine, “While there is a ‘rumor’ that the former president may want to buy a home here, he is here purely for rest and relaxation.”

Sim also mentioned that during their previous visit, after Biden dropped out of the 2024 election, they had stayed with billionaire donor Joe Kiani.

Kiani has donated nearly $3 million to Biden's super PAC, foundation, and inaugural committee, sparking concerns from Republicans. Furthermore, in September 2021, Kiani was appointed by Biden to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

While little is known about the Bidens' future plans, Biden has two homes in Delaware—one in Wilmington and one in Rehoboth Beach. It remains unclear whether either of these will be his base after his presidency. However, if the rumor mentioned by Sim is true, the Bidens may choose to settle on the West Coast.
