On the day of Donald Trump's inauguration, his supporters waited outside the DC jail for most of the time.
Today, during a speech at Capitol One Arena, Donald Trump announced that upon reaching the Oval Office, he would pardon those accused in the January 6 incident.
The crowd cheered, and a woman shouted, "Freedom!"
Donald Trump identified those jailed for the Capitol Hill attack as "political prisoners" and promised to pardon them.
It remains unclear how far this pardon will extend and whether it will include those convicted.
On January 6, 2021, a group of Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol.
At least five people were killed during the attack on the Congress building by Trump supporters.
Democrats had initiated impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump for inciting the attack.
However, Trump was acquitted as the Senate did not achieve the two-thirds majority required for conviction.
