Washington, January 19 - President-elect Donald Trump will celebrate his victory with a campaign-style rally in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, ahead of his second-term inauguration. This marks his return to the White House four years after losing to Joe Biden.
The "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) at the Capital One Arena. It will be Trump’s first major speech in Washington since he called on his supporters to march on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. During that time, his supporters attempted, unsuccessfully, to prevent Congress from certifying the election results. Trump has promised to pardon many of the more than 1,500 people charged in connection with that incident.
His remarks at the rally and his inaugural address on Monday are expected to give a glimpse of the tone he will adopt in the early days of his second term. In recent weeks, Trump has unsettled foreign allies by openly considering taking over Greenland and the Panama Canal and turning Canada into a U.S. state. The rally is likely to reflect the lively arena speeches that were a hallmark of his first presidential campaign in 2016.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man who has spent over $250 million supporting Trump’s campaign and has become a close confidant, is set to speak at the rally. Other speakers include Vice President-elect JD Vance, Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and conservative commentator Megyn Kelly.
