Russian Drone and Missile Attack in Kyiv Kills at Least 4, Ukrainian Strikes Ignite Russian Fuel Storage
Kyiv, Ukraine: On Saturday, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, with drones and missiles, killing at least four people, while Ukrainian drone strikes set fire to industrial sites in Russia.
Russia launched 39 Shahed drones, other simulator drones, and four ballistic missiles early in the morning, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down two missiles and 24 drones. Additionally, 14 drone simulators were destroyed locally, they said.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that a missile shot down over the Shevchenkivskyi district killed four people. Debris also fell over the Desnyansky district, he added.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that in the Shevchenkivskyi area, smoke was seen at the entrance of a residential building, and a water pipeline was damaged. AP journalists at the scene saw a dead body lying in a pool of blood among the debris. Water flooded the streets as firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Klitschko also said that the Lukyanivska metro station was closed after the attack damaged its glass entrance. Drones and missiles were shot down across Ukraine, particularly in the regions of Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Donetsk.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone attacks ignited industrial sites in Russia’s Kaluga and Tula regions, local officials reported.
Russia's Ministry of Defense stated that 46 Ukrainian drones were destroyed across the country overnight.
In the Kaluga region, a drone strike sparked a fire in the town of Lyudinovo, Governor Vladislav Shapsha wrote on Telegram. Locals on social media reported that the attack targeted a local oil depot.
A similar fire was reported in the Tula region, where Governor Dmitry Milyaev said a fuel storage tank was set ablaze. He warned locals to stay away from fallen drone debris.
