Washington, January 14 - President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Pentagon leadership, Pete Hegseth, faced harsh criticism during his confirmation hearing on Tuesday, as the top Democrat on the Senate committee accused him of lacking the "character and composure" to lead the U.S. military.

Hegseth, a former Fox News host, has been at the center of numerous controversies since being nominated as Secretary of Defense. The 44-year-old has made controversial remarks on various issues, including strongly criticizing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the military and questioning whether the top U.S. general holds the position solely because he is Black. Prior to his nomination, Hegseth had been a strong opponent of women in combat roles.

During the hearing, multiple protesters interrupted Hegseth’s remarks, causing disruptions to the flow of the discussion. His qualifications to lead the Pentagon have been called into question, especially regarding his management experience.

To secure Hegseth’s nomination, Republican support has become crucial, as the nomination has faced widespread criticism.
