Sudanese Army Victory in Ongoing Conflict: Entry into Al-Jazeera State, RSF Defeat

The Sudanese army has made significant progress in the ongoing civil war, entering Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazeera state, a key stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). On Saturday, January 11, the army and its allied forces launched an offensive, reclaiming the city that had been under RSF control for over a year, according to the army.

In an official statement, the army congratulated the Sudanese people and claimed that the city had been "liberated." The office of the government's spokesperson and Information Minister Khalid al-Aiser described this operation as a major step in regaining the city's independence.

Celebration of the Army's Victory

The army shared a video on social media showing soldiers entering near the northern edge of the city, close to the Hantoub Bridge, which had been under RSF control since December 2023. AFP sources reported that the troops had entered the eastern part of the city, and large celebrations were taking place.

Impact of the War on Civilians

The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has led to what the United Nations has called the world's largest refugee crisis. The war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced over 12 million people to flee their homes, with more than three million seeking refuge in neighboring countries.

In the early stages of the war, Al-Jazeera became a refuge for over half a million displaced people. However, a December 2023 RSF offensive displaced over 300,000 people, leaving many repeatedly displaced.

The intensity of the war has led to famine being declared in parts of Sudan, and millions of people are in desperate need of food aid. The conflict has also caused a refugee exodus to neighboring countries, such as South Sudan and Chad, further destabilizing the region.

This war has resulted in a growing humanitarian disaster in Sudan and the surrounding region, with urgent calls for international aid.
