Three Pakistanis Among Those Killed in Houthi Attack on Ship
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday condemned a Houthi rebel attack on a ship in Yemen’s Bab el-Mandeb Strait. He said three Pakistanis were killed and another was wounded in the attack.
A total of six people were killed in Tuesday’s attack.
With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed because of Iran’s actions and the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, located at Yemen’s southern tip, have gained renewed importance. Saudi Arabia uses this route as an alternative pathway for transporting its oil.
The latest attack on the ship came as part of a growing series of Houthi attacks against Yemeni government forces and oil facilities in neighboring Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia supports the Yemeni government, and Houthi rebels have also targeted Saudi shipping in the Red Sea.
