Ottawa, January 6: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is increasingly likely to announce his resignation, although he has not yet made a final decision, a source told Reuters on Sunday.

The Globe and Mail reported that Trudeau is expected to announce his resignation as leader of Canada's ruling Liberal Party as early as Monday, marking the end of his nine-year tenure.

The source also indicated that Trudeau may make the announcement before his party’s caucus meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the current Liberal government is facing a significant decline in popularity, and an election must be called by October, which could accelerate Trudeau's decision to step down.
