The Second Yunus Camp, organized by the Yunus Social Business Foundation in Taiwan, was held at Dongshi Forest Garden towards the end of January 2024. With participation from young people from 26 universities in Taiwan, the event was themed around “Three Zeros Action” – focusing on zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment. The aim of the Yunus Camp was to empower participants to take meaningful steps towards these goals.

Sixty students from various regions of Taiwan formed small teams to discuss social issues. Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, along with six other expert speakers, provided guidance through video messages, sharing their experiences and inspiring the participants. Professor Yunus, drawing from his own global engagement starting from his youth in Bangladesh to his participation in Canada, emphasized the importance of enjoying the camp while also focusing on the vision of three zeros.

Speakers addressed various fields such as design thinking, social innovation, communication skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, inspiring participants to find practical solutions aligned with the ‘three zeros’ goal.

Participants presented various creative projects through which they engaged in competition. The winning team proposed creating environmentally or socially friendly “hubs” in local shops. Other proposals included promoting reusable utensils and using underutilized assets for homeless people.

Filipa Tsai, President of Yunus Social Business Taiwan Foundation, encouraged participants to become illuminated individuals in their respective social circles, citing poems by Rabindranath Tagore from Bangladesh. Each participant was urged to actively pursue the vision of three zeros, embodying Professor Yunus’s consciousness.

Jun-ou Wang, CEO of Yunus Social Business Taiwan Foundation, led the planning and execution of the camp. The camp aimed to assist participants in realizing Yunus’s dream of three zeros through creative thinking, social responsibility, and sustainable development.

Former camp participants who now serve as volunteers contribute to expanding the camp’s social network, acquiring knowledge for building a sustainable world, and promoting the camp’s values through dialogue with experts. Many express their desire to remain involved and progressively engage in volunteering for future camps.
