India-China Dispute, Trump-Modi Relations: Trump's Second Term Could Create New Opportunities for India
Despite some tensions in the India-U.S. relationship during his first administration, President-elect Donald Trump has maintained a close relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Experts believe that India's "pro-America" stance could bring positive outcomes for India in Trump's second term.
The Trump administration, which is known for its "Tariff Man" image, is interested in reshaping the global economy and its commercial relationships. During his election campaign, he issued a warning about the creation of a new currency by the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), threatening to impose 100% tariffs.
India, a founding member of the BRICS group, now holds an important position. Experts believe that India could guide this group to be cautious towards the United States, especially regarding China's potential influence.
At the same time, the personal relationship between Trump and Modi is particularly strong. In 2019, Modi organized the "Howdy Modi" rally in Texas, attended by 50,000 people, and the following year, Trump visited India to participate in the "Namaste Trump" rally, which was attended by 125,000 people.
Experts say that in Trump's second term, India could play a supportive role in countering China's influence, as Modi's worldview largely aligns with Trump's.
However, Trump's trade policies, such as the 10% tariff, could create some challenges for India, as although the trade imbalance between the two countries benefits India, it may open the door for future negotiations.
Experts believe that India's strategic perspective and the depth of the two countries' relationship could provide India with significant advantages during Trump's second term.
