Keith Kellogg, the newly appointed Special Envoy on Ukraine under U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, plans to visit Kyiv and several European countries in early January as part of the new administration’s efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

According to the sources, Kellogg has no plans to visit Moscow during this trip. Instead, he will hold discussions with senior Ukrainian leaders in Kyiv.

The sources further stated that Kellogg’s team is also arranging meetings in other European cities, including Rome and Paris, though the itinerary is subject to change.

The meetings are expected to focus on gathering information to brief the incoming Trump administration rather than initiating formal negotiations. However, this trip signals Trump’s interest in resolving the Ukraine conflict.

In his first press conference after winning the election, Trump pledged to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, though he did not provide details on how he plans to achieve this.

Additionally, in a speech at Mar-a-Lago on December 16, Trump described the war as “horrific” and emphasized the urgent need for its resolution.

However, former intelligence and national security officials have expressed skepticism. They believe Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to come to the negotiating table easily, particularly on terms acceptable to Kyiv.
