South Korea's Acting President Han-Soo Takes Office, Assures Strengthened Security and Stability

Following the impeachment and temporary removal from office of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo took immediate steps on Sunday to reassure allied nations and stabilize financial markets.

In a statement from the Prime Minister's office, Han Duck-so said, "South Korea will continue its foreign and security policies without hindrance and will strive to maintain and further strengthen the South Korea-U.S. alliance."

To achieve this, he had a phone conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden, according to the White House and Han's office.

Immediately following Saturday's impeachment vote, Han Duck-so called an emergency meeting with his cabinet and the National Security Council. He emphasized the importance of maintaining military preparedness to safeguard national security.

It is worth noting that the impeachment proposal in Parliament was passed after allegations were raised against President Yoon Suk-yeol regarding attempts to impose martial law, leading to political and economic instability in South Korea.

Seoul is focused on maintaining relationships with international allies. Acting President Han Duck-so assured that South Korea would do everything possible to maintain its strategic goals and strengthen alliance relations.
