PM Modi Addresses Special Session on Constitution's 75th Anniversary

— Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech in the Lok Sabha during a special session commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution. Highlighting this milestone as a matter of pride and celebration, he expressed gratitude to the Constitution’s framers and lawmakers.

PM Modi remarked, “These 75 years of achievements are extraordinary. The Indian Constitution has brought us to this point, overcoming challenges that seemed insurmountable at the time of independence.”

He added, “I bow with respect to the millions of citizens of India who have turned this system into reality. The people of India deserve all the accolades.”

The special session focused on discussions around the Constitution, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of its adoption on November 26. During the winter session, opposition parties raised issues alleging violations of constitutional provisions.

Sharp Criticism of Congress

In his address, PM Modi criticized the Congress party, saying, “A Congress family sought to alter the Constitution, attacking freedom of expression. This was an insult to the Constitution’s creators.”

He further stated, “One Congress family has repeatedly followed wrong ideas, actions, and policies.” Citing Nehru’s era, Modi recalled, “Nehru once wrote to governors, saying, ‘If the Constitution hinders our path, we shall amend it.’”

Referring to the Emergency imposed 25 years after the Constitution’s adoption, he said, “During that celebration, Emergency was declared, destroying the democratic system, turning the country into a prison, snatching citizens’ rights, and suppressing press freedom.”

Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also addressed the Lok Sabha, drawing an analogy from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, referencing the character Ekalavya. He said, “When you introduced the Agniveer scheme, you cut off the fingers of the youth. When 70 instances of paper leaks occurred, you cut off their fingers... Today, you fired tear gas shells and used batons on farmers outside Delhi.”

He also highlighted V. D. Savarkar’s remarks on the Constitution, quoting, “There is nothing Indian in this Constitution.” Criticizing the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said, “While they claim to protect the Constitution, they are mocking its principles and its foremost leaders.”

75 Years of the Indian Constitution

On this occasion, PM Modi emphasized the historical significance of the Indian Constitution and its unifying role in the nation’s progress. He remarked, “This democratic journey is not just 75 years but a priceless achievement.”
