New Dimension in Syria's War: Iraq-Iran Joint Support and Border Entry

Hundreds of Iraq-based militia fighters, supported by Iran, have crossed into Syria to aid government forces in their battle against rebel groups. The fighters, who entered Syria late Sunday night, aim to protect crucial Shiite religious sites and support the Syrian military in its ongoing fight against insurgents.

According to Iraqi security sources, approximately 300 fighters, primarily from the Badr and Nujaba groups, used unmarked routes to cross the border into Syria, avoiding official border crossings. This influx of support comes in the wake of the rebels’ recent capture of key areas in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city.

Joint Syrian-Russian Airstrikes:

In response to the rebel advances in Aleppo, Syrian and Russian forces have intensified airstrikes on rebel-controlled regions. This coordinated military effort aims to reclaim territories seized by the insurgents and to destabilize their strongholds.

Iran’s Ongoing Support:

Iran has confirmed that it will continue to provide all necessary assistance to the Syrian government, reflecting Tehran’s strategic role in the region. Analysts believe that Iranian backing plays a crucial role in Syria’s ability to fight off the rebels, providing both military and logistical support.

Government’s Efforts Against Rebels:

Since the capture of strategic areas in Aleppo by rebel forces, the Syrian government and its allies have ramped up efforts to regain control. Through heavy bombardment and military operations, they are attempting to reclaim lost territory and neutralize rebel positions.

New Tensions in the Conflict:

The entry of Iraqi fighters into Syria adds a new layer to the ongoing conflict, further complicating the battlefield dynamics. With this development, analysts warn that the fighting between government forces and rebels could intensify, leading to a new phase in Syria’s devastating civil war.
