Dhaka witnessed widespread unrest on Sunday as protests, vandalism, and road blockades disrupted the city, leading to a day of chaos and suffering for its residents.
One of the most prominent incidents involved autorickshaw drivers staging protests across the capital, demanding better working conditions. Meanwhile, students of National Medical College blocked the hospital’s main gate, accusing the administration of negligence and misconduct following the death of a fellow student. The protest escalated into vandalism.
In another development, violent clashes broke out between students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College in Old Dhaka over a dispute, resulting in attacks and destruction of property. The violence left at least 40 people injured.
The unrest also disrupted exams for students under Dhaka University’s affiliated seven colleges. Participants were unable to complete their exams due to the vandalism and ensuing panic.
Additionally, near Karwan Bazar, a group of individuals staged a six-hour protest under the banner "Bangladesher Jonota" (People of Bangladesh) outside the Prothom Alo newspaper office, demanding accountability on various issues.
The combination of protests, blockades, and traffic disruptions caused severe inconvenience to commuters throughout the day, leaving many stranded in different parts of the city.
