Ukraine’s Prime Minister Resigns as Zelenskyy Announces Major Government Reshuffle

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Sunday after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a major reshuffle of his government, saying he had offered the former premier a new and important role.

Zelenskyy, who has remained in office under martial law as wartime elections are prohibited, has periodically reshuffled his government in an effort to inject fresh momentum into his administration.

Svyrydenko, who previously served as Ukraine’s economy minister, became prime minister in July 2025 at the age of 39 after playing a key role in securing a landmark minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States. The deal was widely viewed as an important step in strengthening U.S. strategic interests in Ukraine’s security.

In a statement posted on social media, Svyrydenko said she was proud to have led the government during one of the most challenging periods in Ukraine’s modern history. She added that she had discussed the country's "next steps" with President Zelenskyy but did not disclose further details.

“I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and carry out every task aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position, defending our national interests, and bringing a just peace closer,” she said.

Announcing the resignation, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was “changing its political strategy” and revealed that he had offered Svyrydenko the opportunity to lead a new and important area of Ukraine’s relations with a key international partner.

“Each priority area of foreign policy will be assigned to a specific person with substantial experience who is capable of implementing what we agree on at the leaders’ level and what the Ukrainian people expect,” Zelenskyy said, describing the upcoming government reshuffle.

The changes are expected to strengthen Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts and improve the effectiveness of its wartime administration.
