Hamas announced on Monday that it had dissolved its so-called "Emergency Committee" in Gaza, a move intended to pave the way for the transfer of administrative authority to a technocratic body known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).

Hamas officials said that existing civil servants would remain in their positions and continue providing essential public services under the new committee, which will be led by Palestinian technocrat Ali Shaath.

The decision comes as Hamas faces growing international pressure to comply with U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed Gaza peace plan. However, the group has not agreed to disarm, which remains a key condition of the proposed plan.

The announcement could represent a significant political shift in Gaza. Hamas has governed the territory since 2007, when it violently ousted its rival, Fatah, and took control of the Gaza Strip.
