Concerns are mounting over the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran after Washington announced it had seized an Iranian cargo vessel attempting to breach its naval blockade.
According to the U.S. military, the Iranian-flagged ship was heading toward Bandar Abbas Port when it was intercepted and taken into custody.
President Donald Trump confirmed the operation, stating, “We have full custody of their ship and are inspecting its contents.”
Iran condemned the action as “armed piracy,” claiming the vessel originated from China, and warned of imminent retaliation.
Tehran has officially rejected participation in a second round of peace negotiations, citing ongoing U.S. blockades and “excessive demands.”
First Vice President Mohammadreza Aref stated:
"You cannot restrict Iran’s oil exports while expecting security for others. The choice is clear—free markets for all or significant costs for everyone."
The Strait of Hormuz, responsible for nearly 20% of global oil transit, is effectively disrupted.
The U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and Iran’s countermeasures have driven oil prices sharply higher, triggering global economic concerns.
