Russia Accused of Aiding Iran as Middle East War Intensifies; Israel Strikes Beirut and Tehran
The escalating war between Israel and Iran has entered a dangerous new phase, with intelligence sources indicating that Russia may be providing strategic assistance to Tehran as the conflict spreads across the Middle East.
Russia Accused of Aiding Iran as Middle East War Intensifies; Israel Strikes Beirut and Tehran
According to two officials familiar with U.S. intelligence assessments, Moscow has supplied Iran with information that could potentially help Iranian forces target American warships, aircraft and other military assets deployed across the region. If confirmed, this would mark the first known attempt by Russia to directly assist Iran in the current conflict.
Israeli Airstrikes Hit Beirut and Tehran
The latest developments came Friday as Israeli warplanes carried out heavy airstrikes on targets in both Beirut, Lebanon, and Tehran, Iran. The attacks are part of Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Iranian military infrastructure and allied militant groups.
In response, Iran launched a fresh wave of retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries that host U.S. military bases.
Regional security analysts warn that the conflict is rapidly expanding beyond a bilateral confrontation and risks drawing multiple global powers into a wider war.
Trump Calls for Iran’s “Unconditional Surrender”
U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to harden Washington’s stance against Tehran, declaring on social media that Iran must accept “unconditional surrender.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later clarified that the phrase could apply even if Iran is unable to formally announce such a surrender.
Trump also told media outlets Thursday that he wants the United States to play a role in selecting Iran’s next leadership should the current government collapse — a statement that could further inflame tensions in the region.
Civilian Deaths Under Investigation
Meanwhile, international criticism has intensified after a deadly explosion destroyed an elementary school in Iran on February 28.
Evidence gathered by investigators suggests the blast may have been caused by a U.S. airstrike. The incident resulted in the highest reported civilian death toll since the war began.
The United Nations and several human rights organizations have strongly condemned the attack. While the United States has not accepted responsibility, officials say an investigation is underway.
Rising Death Toll Across the Region
The human cost of the war continues to mount.
Officials report that at least:
-
1,230 people have been killed in Iran
-
More than 200 people have died in Lebanon
-
Around a dozen fatalities have been reported in Israel
-
Six U.S. troops have been killed
Military analysts warn that the growing involvement of international powers — including potential Russian support for Iran — could significantly escalate the conflict and destabilize the broader Middle East.
With missile exchanges continuing and diplomatic efforts stalled, the situation remains volatile and unpredictable.
