Indian Students Face Tougher Scrutiny as Canada Flags Visa Fraud Concerns

Canada has reportedly rejected the majority of recent study permit applications from Indian students, citing growing concerns over fraudulent documents and fake admission letters.

According to immigration officials, the surge in visa scams and unauthorized agents operating in India has led to tighter screening procedures. The move follows several high-profile cases where Indian students were deported after their admission documents were found to be fake.

A senior Canadian immigration officer said, “The integrity of our international education system is at stake. We welcome genuine students, but fraudulent applications will not be tolerated.”

Official data indicates that rejection rates for Indian applicants have crossed 60% in some visa centers, particularly in Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, which send the largest number of students abroad.

Canada’s decision comes amid a diplomatic chill between Ottawa and New Delhi, following allegations linking Indian officials to the killing of a Sikh separatist in Canada earlier this year. Analysts say the visa crackdown may further strain bilateral relations.

While Canada remains one of the top destinations for higher education, immigration experts warn that the new measures could discourage genuine students and hurt Canadian universities that rely on international tuition revenue.
