[London, 26 July 2025] — UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for urgent action to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In a column published in the Daily Mirror, he outlined the British government's efforts to provide aid.
Starmer wrote:
"The scenes of hunger and desperation in Gaza are horrific and heartbreaking. Denying Palestinians—especially children and newborns—access to humanitarian aid is in no way justifiable."
He continued:
"This is a humanitarian catastrophe. And it must end now."
The Prime Minister acknowledged that the humanitarian aid allocated by the UK for the people of Gaza has not been reaching them effectively. Therefore, the government is now intensifying its efforts.
Starmer wrote:
"Israel’s recent announcement that it will allow certain countries to deliver aid to Gaza via air is a step that has come very late – but we will do everything possible to use this route to deliver assistance."
He added that British officials are now working in coordination with the Jordanian government to ensure that aid flights can reach Gaza quickly.
Furthermore, he said:
"We are also urgently working to bring critically ill children from Gaza to the UK for life-saving medical treatment."
