[Washington, July 24, 2025] — President Donald Trump asserted in a statement Thursday that he does not want to destroy Elon Musk’s companies. Rather, his goal is for all businesses across the country to thrive and grow stronger.
“Some people are saying I’m going to destroy Elon’s companies by pulling major government subsidies. That’s absolutely not true,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He continued, “I want Elon — and all businesses in our country — to be more prosperous than ever before.”
Trump added, “We’re setting new records every day, and I want that momentum to continue. It’s good for America.”
This statement comes amid growing tensions between Trump and Elon Musk. Once considered close allies, their relationship has deteriorated sharply. The rift began over a tax and domestic policy bill pushed by Trump, which Musk denounced as a “vile piece of legislation.”
When asked by reporters about a recent contract between Musk’s AI company, xAI, and the U.S. Department of Defense, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said she believes Trump does not want federal agencies to enter into deals with Musk’s firms. However, she added that she would discuss the matter in detail with the President.
Musk has been openly critical of Trump in recent months — even calling for his impeachment — and has announced the launch of a new political party called the “America Party.”
In response, Trump expressed disappointment and anger, threatening to revoke federal contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX. He reminded the public that Musk supported his 2024 campaign and was even appointed by Trump to lead the “Federal Innovation & Efficiency Task Force,” but said he is now “deeply disappointed” by Musk’s recent behavior.
