[Dhaka, Bangladesh | July 12, 2025] – Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has alleged that the interim government has completely failed to ensure the safety and security of the people. He also questioned whether certain elements within the government and law enforcement are actively shielding those responsible for the violence.
Speaking virtually at a discussion session held in a Dhaka hotel on Saturday with families of those killed in the July uprising, Tarique Rahman stated:
“It is the government's duty to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. But why is the government failing to do so? That is the question we must all ask. Are those committing acts of violence and murder being given shelter or protection by the authorities?”
He further added:
“A person was murdered in broad daylight — clearly visible in video footage. Why hasn't that person been arrested yet? Should we then assume that someone within the government or administration is protecting the perpetrators?”
“The Invisible Enemy Is Now Becoming Visible”
Tarique Rahman claimed that the conspiracy against democracy is not over.
“Eight to nine months ago, I said there is an invisible enemy. Today, that enemy is gradually becoming visible. These are the very forces obstructing the people's struggle for their rights.”
He emphasized:
“Whoever commits a crime must be held accountable. A criminal has no political identity — wrongdoing is wrongdoing. We prioritize justice over party affiliation.”
“Government’s Role Questionable in Jubo Dal Leader’s Killing in Khulna”
Tarique Rahman also referred to the killing of a former Jubo Dal leader in Khulna:
“One of our activists was murdered in Khulna. And when we demand justice, we are accused of politicizing dead bodies! The people deserve answers. The very existence of Bangladesh is tied to this question.”
“Why Is Justice for July Uprising Martyrs Still Delayed?”
He further stated:
“Violence is erupting in different parts of the country, disturbing any effort to restore a peaceful environment. We strongly question — why has justice for the martyrs of the July uprising been delayed? Who is behind this? Who is mobilizing these mobs? The government must answer these questions.”
