“We achieved a historic victory in the nuclear war against Iran – yet we welcome Iran’s ceasefire,” says Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu
[Jerusalem, June 25, 2025]
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the recent 12-day war with Iran a "historic victory." In his first official statement following the ceasefire, Netanyahu said:
“We achieved a historic victory, and this triumph will be remembered for generations.”
He claimed,
“We rose like a lion, and our roar shook Tehran. This war will be studied by military forces around the world. We destroyed critical nuclear facilities in Arak, Natanz, and Isfahan.”
Netanyahu hinted that if Iran attempts to restart its nuclear program, Israel will destroy it again. He also announced that operations against the "Iranian axis of evil" would continue, with the mission now focusing on rescuing abducted Israeli soldiers and completely dismantling Hamas.
Iran’s Response: “Israel and the U.S. requested the ceasefire”
Iranian officials rejected Netanyahu’s claims, stating that the ceasefire was actually requested by Israel and the United States. They asserted that Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities remain intact and that Israel failed to achieve its primary objectives.
Israel to honor the ceasefire – Defense Minister Katz
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated,
“Israel will abide by the ceasefire – as long as the other side does not violate it.”
He made this commitment after a phone call with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Katz expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for his “courageous leadership and unwavering support for Israel.” He also pledged to strengthen close security cooperation between the two countries.
A strategic pause, not the end?
While the ceasefire has brought temporary calm, many experts view it as a strategic pause rather than a lasting peace. Analysts warn that Iran’s nuclear program, the fate of Israeli hostages, and the continued presence of Hamas could remain flashpoints for future conflict.
