United Nations, New York —
Following remarks from Iran’s representative, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, made an explosive statement during a UN Security Council meeting. He said:
“President Donald Trump deserves the gratitude of the entire world for the military operation on Iran’s weapons-grade nuclear facilities.”
Danon added,
“Today, the entire world should go on the record and say — thank you, President Trump. When many hesitated, he acted with courage.”
Criticizing the United Nations, he said:
“Many here in this institution have criticized the United States and Israel. But I ask, where were you when Iran was enriching uranium far beyond civilian use? Where were you when they were building nuclear fortresses beneath mountains in preparation to destroy us?”
Danon acknowledged,
“There was an attempt to pave a diplomatic path — that cannot be denied.”
However, he claimed,
“Iran turned that dialogue into theater and used it as a disguise to buy time to develop missiles and enrich uranium.”
He continued,
“Iran signed numerous international agreements which it never intended to honor. The free world gave Iran repeated chances, but doing nothing would have cost lives — it would have meant death.”
Danon's statement at the UN comes at a time when the United States, under President Trump's leadership, has launched extensive airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Israel has described the move as “absolutely necessary” and “a bold, history-altering decision.”
