Iran Must Never Acquire Weapons of Mass Destruction – French President Macron to President Masoud Pezeshkian

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he recently held a phone conversation with Iran’s newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian. During the discussion, both leaders agreed on the need to accelerate ongoing negotiations between Iran and European nations concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Macron said:
“My message is clear: Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons. It is Iran’s responsibility to provide full guarantees of peaceful intent.”
He further added:
“I believe there is still a path to stop the war and avoid a greater catastrophe.”
President Pezeshkian has repeatedly said that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons but insists on maintaining its right to peaceful nuclear energy and research.
In his statement, Macron also mentioned:
“Iranian President @drpezeshkian called me. I reiterated in the clearest terms: French citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris must be released immediately. Their detention is entirely unjust and inhumane. I hope they can return to France very soon.”
Macron said France remains deeply concerned about Iran’s nuclear program and stressed that Europe prefers a diplomatic resolution.
“To achieve that goal, France and its European partners will accelerate negotiations,” Macron added.
The ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran have raised significant international concern. With rising fears over Iran’s nuclear intentions, Europe wants Iran to place its program under international oversight and ensure it is used only for peaceful purposes.
