Attack of armed groups on prisons in Haiti, 4 thousand prisoners freed

Criminals have attacked a prison in the Caribbean country of Haiti. They took away about 4000 prisoners through this armed attack.

Among the inmates held here were gang members involved in the assassination of the country’s former president Jovenel Moise. British media BBC reported this information in a report on Monday (March 4).

According to the report, the armed groups attacked the main prison in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, and freed many prisoners. A local journalist told BBC News that most of the 4,000 prisoners held there have now escaped.

Among those detained here were gang members involved in the 2021 assassination of then President Jovenel Moes.

Violence has worsened in recent years in Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas. Armed groups working to oust Prime Minister Ariel Henry control about 80 percent of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
