Amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday, “I spoke with President Trump, and I am hopeful that the situation will calm within the next few hours.”

Macron also stated that he spoke with Iran’s President on Saturday and called for the resumption of talks on the nuclear program. He added that he will raise the issue at the upcoming G7 summit to help advance the discussions.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran for the third consecutive day, to which Iran responded with retaliatory missile strikes.

The French President said,
“I hope a path to dialogue will open, nuclear tensions will ease, and a major war in the region can be avoided.”

The Trump administration is currently pursuing a new agreement with Iran, which could serve as an alternative to the 2015 nuclear deal. Notably, Trump, during his first term as president, had withdrawn the United States from that original deal.
