Russian ForeignMinister Sergey Lavrov on Monday accused the United Kingdom of being fully involved in Ukraine’s “terrorist attacks.”
Speaking at the "Future Forum 2050" event in Moscow, Lavrov stated that Ukraine would be completely incapable of carrying out such “terrorist attacks” without British assistance.
He said, “These threats are extremely serious. It is obvious that everything is being done through the Ukrainians, but without Britain’s support, they are absolutely helpless.”
Lavrov further warned, “There is a growing risk of an escalation in terrorist threats. We can see it happening. We will do everything necessary to suppress these threats and prevent harm to our citizens.”
On Russia-U.S. relations, Lavrov remarked that ties between Moscow and Washington are currently somewhat better compared to the period when Joe Biden was President of the United States.
However, he noted that the U.S. has shown no intention of agreeing to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposed moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range missiles.
Notably, the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty was a historic Cold War-era agreement signed in December 1987 between the United States and the then-Soviet Union.
The treaty banned the development, testing, and deployment of all ground-based ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.
It played a key role in reducing the risk of sudden nuclear conflict in Europe.
However, the United States withdrew from the INF Treaty in 2019, effectively nullifying the agreement.
Since then, despite Western missile deployments and NATO’s military activities, Russia has unilaterally maintained its decision not to deploy medium- and short-range missiles in Europe.
