Gaza’s Situation Worse Than Hell,” Says International Committee of the Red Cross President Mirjana Spoljaric
Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said that the situation in Gaza has become worse than hell.
In an interview with the BBC at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, she stated, “Humanity is failing. States are not doing enough to stop the war, end the suffering of Palestinians, and free Israeli hostages.”
She added that the humanitarian dignity of Palestinians has been violated and that international laws related to humanitarian activities are being ignored.
ICRC is an international organization that operates in war zones. It has 130 staff members in Gaza, most of whom are Palestinians.
The organization runs a surgical hospital in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Recently, there were casualties near the hospital’s relief distribution center.
The organization reported that yesterday morning, 184 people were brought to the hospital, of whom 19 were dead on arrival. Another eight died later.
ICRC is commonly known as the Red Cross and is considered the guardian of the Geneva Conventions. It was established after World War II to protect civilians during armed conflicts.
Mirjana Spoljaric emphasized that there are rules of war, and they apply to all parties involved.
