Israeli Genocide in Gaza Must Stop Immediately – Colombian President Petro

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has expressed deep concern over Israel’s military aggression in the Gaza Strip and the growing risk of thousands of children dying from hunger. He explicitly labeled the assault as “genocide” and called for its immediate end.

In a statement, President Petro said, “Humanity in the 21st century cannot be a silent witness to genocide.” He warned, “If we do not speak out, humanity will be lost.”

Since last year, a group of leftist leaders from Latin America has taken a vocal stance against Israel’s actions in Gaza. President Petro has been one of the most outspoken among them, strongly criticizing the ongoing Israeli campaign since it began in October 2023.

In 2024, Colombia announced its readiness to join the case filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which accuses Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians.

Analysts believe Petro’s latest remarks could help draw renewed international attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Meanwhile, millions in the Gaza Strip continue to suffer under the ongoing Israeli blockade and attacks. According to reports from the United Nations and other international organizations, the population faces severe shortages of food, water, and medicine. Malnutrition rates among children are rising alarmingly amid the dire humanitarian conditions.
