Russian President Vladimir Putin Announces Unilateral 72-Hour Ceasefire

According to a report by the state news agency TASS, Russia has declared a unilateral 72-hour ceasefire in Ukraine and urged Kyiv to agree to this temporary halt in fighting.

On Monday, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russian forces would halt combat from midnight on May 7 until midnight on May 10. This announcement comes after growing pressure from the United States for Moscow to agree to a full ceasefire. Russia will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the "Great Patriotic War" on May 9, marking the Soviet Union's participation in World War II.

While the Kremlin called on Kyiv to join the temporary ceasefire, it warned that any violations by Ukrainian forces would result in a "suitable and effective response" from the Russian armed forces.

Further details are coming.
