Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday that he is canceling part of his South Africa visit due to recent Russian airstrikes.
In a post on social media platform X, he wrote:
“As of this moment, more than 80 people have been injured across Ukraine. Everyone is receiving the necessary medical assistance. Unfortunately, 9 people have been killed in Kyiv. My deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones.”
Zelenskyy further said:
“Today, I will inform South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently holds the G20 presidency, about the situation. I am canceling part of my visit’s program and will return to Ukraine immediately after my meeting with President Ramaphosa.”
He also stated that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will hold all necessary meetings in South Africa to ensure that the country’s political and civil society leaders are fully informed about the situation.
