According to a statement by Bangladesh’s state news agency BSS, Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Global Engagement at SpaceX, met with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the Earthna Summit held in Doha.
Apoorva Jahangir, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, stated that the meeting focused on the final steps leading up to the official launch of SpaceX’s satellite service in Bangladesh.
Dreyer, who has worked with Elon Musk for over two decades, expressed optimism about the partnership.
“We are now in the final phase. I’ve instructed my team to be fully ready for the technical deployment by mid-May,” she said.
Professor Yunus commented during the meeting, “This is big news for Bangladesh. People are counting the days.” He added, “When the moment arrives, it must be a grand celebration.”
The partnership will begin with a technical rollout, to be followed by full-scale operations, pending resolution of a few final issues.
There was also discussion about the possibility of using PayPal, the digital payment platform founded by Elon Musk, to facilitate SpaceX’s digital transactions in Bangladesh.
Dreyer added, “This initiative has been extremely well-organized and disciplined from the very beginning — it’s one of the best projects we’ve participated in.”
Also present at the meeting was the Foreign Affairs Advisor.
