Thousands Protest in Istanbul Against Ongoing Israeli Genocide, Killings, and Forced Displacement in Gaza
Istanbul, April 20, 2025 —
Thousands of people participated in a protest in Istanbul, Turkey’s commercial capital, against the ongoing Israeli assault and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The demonstration was organized under the slogan “No to genocide, killings, and forced displacement in Gaza.”
Many of the protesters were supporters of Turkey’s main opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP). When the protesters tried to march toward Istanbul’s central Taksim Square, police blocked their path, leading to clashes.
University students and CHP supporters were at the forefront of the march. When they attempted to enter Taksim Square, security forces stopped them, resulting in shoving and scuffles between the two sides.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters denounced Israel’s war on Gaza as a “crime against humanity” and called on the international community to take firm action.
The war in Gaza has sparked strong public outrage across Turkey, and this protest is one of the most significant expressions of that anger.
