Pakistan, March 24 – The Pakistani military has reported that they killed 16 members of a terrorist group in the North Waziristan area, near the border with Afghanistan, during a nighttime clash. In the incident, Pakistan's border security forces engaged in a battle when the terrorist group attempted to infiltrate the border.

In a statement, the Pakistani military said, "Our forces actively halted their infiltration attempt." The statement also emphasized, "Pakistan’s security forces are determined and committed to safeguarding the nation’s borders and eliminating terrorism."

This comes at a time when Pakistan’s special envoy, Sadiq Khan, is on a two-day official visit to Afghanistan. The purpose of his visit is to discuss bilateral and economic matters, according to Pakistan's embassy in Kabul.

Earlier this month, Pakistan's security forces uncovered and raided the secret bases of two terrorist groups in Mohmand and Dera Ismail Khan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have sharply deteriorated over the past three years. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of failing to curb the activities of the Pakistan Taliban (TTP) within Afghan territory. Established in 2007, the TTP has carried out over a hundred attacks in Pakistan.

In 2024 alone, over 500 attacks have occurred in Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, including both civilians and law enforcement personnel. The Pakistani government has accused Afghanistan of harboring the TTP, though the Afghan Taliban denies these allegations.

Despite the heated situation at the border, Pakistan's security forces remain resolute in their efforts to prevent further infiltration.
