Washington, March 21 – Billionaire Elon Musk held a historic meeting at the Pentagon on Friday, where he called for legal action against Defense Department officials who leaked false information.
Musk, for the first time, had an 80-minute discussion with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. It is unclear whether U.S. generals participated in the meeting virtually. The New York Times reported that Musk would be briefed on secret war plans against China, but both Musk and Trump dismissed the report as "purely a campaign" and called for legal action against leaking officials.
Musk wrote on the X platform, "I am waiting for legal action to be taken against those accused of leaking false information at the Pentagon. They will be caught."
The Pentagon meeting is part of Musk's ongoing efforts to reduce U.S. government spending, implemented through the Trump administration's economic policies and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). There are also concerns about conflicts of interest due to Musk's business ties with China through his companies, Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk's SpaceX and Starlink have several contracts with the Pentagon, which may create potential conflicts of interest. After the meeting, Musk told reporters, "We are ready for the challenges, and I want to ensure our discussions are fruitful."
Previously, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had initiated an investigation into the leaked information and is conducting an inquiry within the internal chat rooms of the intelligence community.
Musk’s meeting at the Pentagon is expected to focus on new innovative plans to reduce government costs and improve operational efficiency.
