Istanbul, March 21 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that Turkey is accelerating its diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a Nowruz Day event in Istanbul on Friday, Erdoğan said, "We have accelerated our diplomatic efforts to restore the ceasefire, stop the torture, and dismantle the genocide network."
He further stated, "Turkey will never allow this criminal group to turn the region into a sea of blood," referring to the Israeli government.
Erdoğan announced that Turkey has increased humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza in observance of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the major Muslim festival.
Since Tuesday, more than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 900 injured in a surprise Israeli airstrike, breaking the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established in January. Since October 2023, Israel's brutal military attacks on Gaza have resulted in nearly 50,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 112,000 injuries, most of them women and children.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister, Yoav Galant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war in the Gaza Strip.
