Syria's interim leader, Ahmed Sharaa, stated on Sunday that he would hold accountable those responsible for the ongoing violence and clashes in the country's coastal region. A war monitoring group reported that over 1,000 people have been killed in the violence, most of whom are civilians, during the past four days.

The violence is primarily taking place in Syria's coastal region, where clashes are ongoing between supporters of President Bashar al-Assad and the new Islamic rulers. Sharaa, who ousted Assad in December, claimed in a national television address that Assad loyalists and some foreign powers are trying to create chaos in the country.

"Today, we face a new danger — attempts by the remnants of the former regime and their foreign backers to incite new unrest, aiming to divide the nation and destroy its unity and stability," Sharaa said.

He also added that he would ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable.
