Riyadh, March 6 – Saudi Arabia has announced its full support for Palestine's request to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to monitor the situation in the Palestinian territories.
This was conveyed by Saudi Arabia’s permanent delegation, led by Prince Jalawi bin Turki Al Saud, who was attending the 108th session of the OPCW Executive Council in The Hague, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In a statement, the delegation reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and emphasized the importance of its full implementation. They also stated that the use of chemical weapons "is a crime and a violation of the Convention and international law."
Additionally, the delegation expressed support for Palestine's request for OPCW to monitor the situation in the Palestinian territories.
Palestine, which joined the OPCW in 2018, has repeatedly accused Israel of violating the Chemical Weapons Convention and has appealed to the organization to monitor the use of chemical weapons in the region.
On related matters, the Saudi delegation congratulated progress on Syria's chemical weapons file and highlighted the importance of cooperation among member states to enable Syria to resolve the issue permanently.
