“Bangladesh’s Minister for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Mohammad Tajul Islam, called upon world leaders to take bold and concerted actions in combating climate change and transferring technology during the Third P4G Summit held in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. Speaking at the high-level dialogue titled ‘Techsolving for a Sustainable Future,’ Minister Tajul Islam emphasized the responsibility of international communities in supporting developing nations in their fight against climate change.
He highlighted the importance of global collaboration and solidarity for a sustainable and prosperous future, emphasizing the need for active and inclusive participation from all stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a richer and more sustainable future.
Minister Tajul Islam also expressed Bangladesh’s willingness to continue working with P4G in the coming days. He praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in achieving remarkable economic and social progress in Bangladesh and reiterated the country’s goal of becoming a smart and developed nation by 2041. He emphasized Bangladesh’s local initiatives in climate change adaptation and mitigation, underscoring the country’s role as a leader in the field.

He mentioned that Bangladesh established the ‘Climate Change Trust Fund’ in 2009 and has allocated nearly $470 million from its own resources for various climate change projects. He also mentioned the ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100’ as a strategy for sustainable development and expressed support for youth entrepreneurship and startup ventures facilitated by the government.
Furthermore, Minister Tajul Islam held bilateral discussions with Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Álvaro Leyva and Denmark’s Vice Minister for Development Policy Ole Thonke. During these meetings, they discussed various areas of cooperation where the two countries can establish partnerships, exchange experiences, and learn from each other. Minister Leyva praised Bangladesh’s impressive achievements in disaster management and expressed Colombia’s interest in learning from Bangladesh’s experiences. Bangladesh can also benefit from Colombia’s expertise in biodiversity conservation.
Both the local government minister and the Danish vice minister agreed on working in P4G’s five focus areas in their respective regions, with a focus on creating conducive environments for youth engagement and providing support for waste management initiatives.
